Cali Weed is high-end cannabis flower that has been grown professionally in California before being transported (usually by mail) to be sold in the UK. Its superior quality means it can be sold for as much as £100 for 3.5g, or £700/oz.
It is usually packaged in sealed tins with branding from any number of well-known American weed brands.
What makes Cali Weed it so special then?
Well, California was one of the first U.S states to legalise cannabis (medical in 1996 and recreational just over 20 years later in 2017).
This allowed growers in the ‘Golden State’ the freedom to perfect their cultivation techniques and reliably produce some of the world’s strongest, stinkiest cannabis.
It also paved the way for cannabis growers to create recognisable brands and build a reputation around their product. (Some well-known brands include Connected, Jungle Boys, and Cookies.)
California also has outrageously strict testing regulations on the weed it grows, meaning no pesticides and harmful chemicals, mould, or mildew.
And that means that the weed grown in California is some of the most sought after in the world, including in the UK where there is a thriving cannabis community.
Is it worth the money?

For a product that typically sells for closer to £10 a gram when it is home-grown (grown in the UK), these prices are astronomical.
But can they be justified?
Obviously, this depends a lot on your personal finances and how much you appreciate your bud.

It is clear that these brands are producing cannabis of higher quality than anyone in the UK, and it makes sense considering the head start they’ve had.
How do you know if it’s real Cali Weed?
With people obviously willing to part with so much money for this ‘designer weed’, the scammers were soon going to pop up.
And due to the nature of the product, it can be hard to tell the difference.
After all, any old sod can order some ‘cali tins’ off eBay along with some authentic-looking stickers to put on them, before throwing in some regular home-grown and charging extortionate prices to people who don’t know any better.
But there are a few things you can do to see if it’s the real deal…
- Is it in a sealed tin or pouch?
If not, put your cash away.
- Does the packaging look sleek, crystal clear, and authentic?
Check online and compare the packaging to examples on the brand’s website or social media. Does it have the N2 logo?
- Does it look and smell exceptional?
Obviously, it’s a bit difficult to tell if it’s in a tin, but you should be able to tell the difference if you see and smell the bud.

In my 40 years experience you cant beat a landrace cross selected from regs. Cali Designer weed is over hybridized, it all smells the same and is harsh because of pgrs in the feed which make the rock hard buds and usually pippy. Its crap, but there are generations that know no better and have bought into kidolgy.
