The world’s most renowned cannabis contest just took place in northern California  

The Emerald Cup 2019 saw California’s elite growers compete over the most sought after award in the industry – Best Sun Grown Flower. 

California-grown weed is considered by most in the know as the best in the world. Therefore, anything that even makes it into consideration for the The Emerald Cup is among the most pungent, flavourful and potent weed in the world.  

Festival 

The Emerald Cup started as a post harvest celebration among growers in the famed Emerald Triangle growing region of Mendocino, Humboldt, and Trinity counties in northern California. 

As the legal and illegal cannabis industries in California blossomed, so did the popularity of The Emerald Cup, which soon morphed into a well-known cannabis celebration honouring the year’s finest, organic, sun-grown cannabis harvest, music festival, and networking event.

This year’s event saw judges preside over 700 entrants over 14 categories. The most prestigious award (outdoor flower) went to Ridgeline Farms of Humboldt County for their Ridgeline Runtz strain – their version of the Gelato x Zkittlez cross Runtz.

It was a good year for Ridgeline Farms as their Ice Cream Cake , came fifth and their Green Lantern strain (thought to be a cross between Green Crack and White Rhino), placed ninth. Green Lantern strain won the cup last year.

P.O.G (Passion Orange Guava) from Greenshock Farms came second, while White Runtz from Humboldt Redwood Healing came third. 

Other eye-catching entries include Rose Lemonade, Candied Banana and Roze Water Zkittles

There’s also a Best CBD Flower category, for which the top three placements were Holy Crunch from Phytologie in first, Medihaze from Foothill River Farms second and Harle Bubba from Amaranth Farms third.
