The NYPD (New York Police Department) were left red-faced after returning 106 pounds of legal hemp flower to its owner.
What’s even more entertaining is the way Oren Levy, who owns Green Angel CBD, and his brother Ronen celebrated the return of their shipment: by recreating a boastful photo that the arresting officers posted on the NYPD’s Twitter page.
That’s right. When the seizure was first made, a since-deleted picture was posted of two of New York’s finest gleefully grinning in front of what they believed to be the catch of their careers – that’s despite paperwork that was with the shipment clearly stating this was lawful hemp with below the 0.3% THC limit.

The hemp flower, which was being delivered to a retail shop to be sold, was held by police for over 6 weeks. However, drug trafficking charges were dropped a few weeks ago after it became clear that the low-THC cannabis was legal under the 2018 Farm Bill.
‘NYPD hemp bud’
Levy says the buds have been returned dry and that he would be sending samples off to labs to check for mould and bacteria that could have been caused by poor storing conditions by the police.
If safe to be consumed, a number of people on Reddit have expressed an interest in purchasing some “NYPD hemp flower” as a metaphorical middle finger to the police.
Levy himself is suing the city for $10 million in damages, as well as for the false arrest of brother Ronen when he tried to pick up the shipment from the 75th Precinct after FedEx reported it to the police.
