Hash used to be everywhere in the UK. Everything from soapbar to luxury imports from Morocco, Afghanistan and Nepal were always around.
Not so much these days though. Unless you have the right connections, good quality hash can be very hard to find.
Which is why I am such a big fan of CBD hash these days, and always have a nice little variety of different solids in my stash.
This article will tell you all you need to know about CBD hash; including what it is, how you use it, and why you should try it to begin with.
Most importantly, it’ll also tell you where to buy the best CBD hash in the UK, so you can find out for yourself just how good this stuff can be. But first…
What is CBD hash?
Hash is a hard, dark substance made from the resin glands, or trichomes, of cannabis plants. CBD hash is made from CBD-rich strains of cannabis with little to no THC present, meaning it won’t get you high in the same way THC-rich hash will.
Trichomes are the tiny hair-like structures on cannabis flowers (buds) that can look like crystals or white dusting by eye. They are actually the resin glands of the plant and are where cannabinoids – like THC and CBD – and terpenes are produced.
To make hash, you remove these resin glands – traditionally by shaking and sieving the buds, or rubbing it with your hands. The collected trichomes are then pressed or rolled into blocks or balls.
Depending on many factors – such as the strain of cannabis used, the freshness/dryness of the bud, and trichome-separating and pressing technique – the resulting hash can be hard, soft, crumbly, brittle, squidgy or sticky. You can also get dry sift hash, which hasn’t been pressed so is more of a fine powder.
The colour also varies based on a number of factors, but hash is generally somewhere between light brown and black.
How to use CBD hash
CBD hash is very versatile. It can be smoked, vaped, or used in cooking. The most popular way is to smoke the stuff, either in a joint or bong. I like to use a dry herb vape to consume CBD hash as it really brings out the taste.
When smoking in a joint, simply crumble some in on top of your herb. Same with a bong bowl – just sprinkle a layer on top. If it’s really squidgy and sticky, you can try rolling it into little sausages or just break little pieces off and mix it with your herb.
CBD hash is also pleasant when mixed with a nice tobacco.
When it comes to cooking with CBD hash, you just need to infuse it into a fat or oil before using in any recipe. Most CBD hash mentioned on the list below doesn’t need to be decarbed as it has already undergone this process during production.
What are the effects of CBD hash?
As mentioned above, CBD hash won’t get you high like THC does. However, the effects can still be quite profound.
I like to describe the effects of smoking or vaping CBD hash like a wave of relaxation, from head to toe. While your mind quietens, you don’t feel drowsy or intoxicated in any way. Just calm.
For these reasons, it’s great for daytime use or for unwinding at the end of the day.
When eaten, the effects can be similar but creep up on you more subtly. They may also last longer – anywhere up to four hours.
5 Reasons to try CBD hash
1. Smells and taste like old school hash
For those that miss the old school hash – the creamy malana, the spicy morrocan kif, and the smooth Afghani that Howard Marks used to smoke – CBD hash might just stir something in you.
Thanks to modern cultivation techniques and the sharing of genetics, you can now buy all your old favourites in CBD form. It’s really quite impressive.
2. Relaxing but not intoxicating
True, CBD hash won’t have the same effects as your typical hash, but it still has plenty to offer. For more clear-minded, relaxed effects, CBD hash is incredible.
3. Potent
Some CBD hash can be very potent – like up to 44% cannabinoids. This means a little goes a long way.
4. Perfect for vaping
Used in a dry herb vape, CBD hash can taste even better than usual. If you appreciate the flavour of hash, I highly recommend you try vaping some CBD hash,.
5. Wide cannabinoid profile
Many CBD hashes feature a wide range of cannabinoids, not just CBD.
Lesser known cannabinoids like CBG, CBDa, and CBDV may not have been as well studied as CBD and THC, yet they no doubt offer potential benefits. They probably add to the calming effect of CBD hash too.
Best CBD Hash in the UK
1. Holy Grail Squidgy Black Hash from Ice Head Shop
As part of their Holy Grail range, Ice Head Shop have this intensely satisfying squidgy black CBD hash. It comes in three strengths – 16%, 28% and 44% cannabinoids (including CBD, CBE, CBG and CBDV) – each of which packs a punch.
It has the exact consistency as the real squidgy black from yesteryear – gooey, sticky and sweaty – and rolls into perfect sausages for laying in joints. We love this stuff so much we reviewed it a couple months ago. Check it out here.
Ice’s 88% disposable distillate vape pen is also well worth checking out. We reviewed it here.
2. Delta 8 Hash from Budmother
Now, not only does this hash have a nice amount of CBD, it also has delta-8 THC, which is a cannabinoid that’s become very popular in the US.
It’s chemically different from the THC you are probably most familiar with – delta-9 THC – and has much milder effects. Although people do say that they can feel a little high after consuming it. One review on their website describes it “as close to the real thing as it gets.”
3. Nepal Cream Hash from HempElf
This dark creamy hash from HempElf is superb. High CBD content (22%), organic, and tastes great. In terms of texture, expect a soft, squidgy and oily hash that rolls perfectly. It’s also super relaxing and is ideal for getting a good night’s sleep.
4. Moroccan CBD Hash from HempHash
This beautiful CBD hash from HempHash is dark, oily and sticky on the outside with a chocolate fudge interior. It crumbles delightfully after a gentle heat and adds a classic hash taste to your smoke.
It’s as close to the classic Moroccan hash you will find. It’ll be hard to be disappointed with this stuff.
5. Power Charas from Weed Supermarket
With a citrusy, lemon flavour profile, this remarkable CBD charas hash is just too good not to include in this list.
