Introduction

Delta 8 THC is taking America by storm. Over here in the UK, however, the cannabinoid is not as well known.

Which is why I decided to try out Budmorther’s new delta-8 gummies and see what all the  fuss is about for myself.

But first, let’s clear up a few misconceptions about delta 8 THC.

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (otherwise known as delta-8 THC or simply delta 8) is one of hundreds of cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.

Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (also known as THC) is responsible for the high associated with cannabis use, and delta 8 is structurally very similar and produces some similar effects.

The difference between the two compounds is pretty small – whereas delta 9 THC has a double bond on the ninth carbon, delta 8 has it on the eighth carbon. This slight structural difference allows delta-8 THC to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) in a slightly different way.

While there is very little research on how delta 8 THC works in the body, it’s this difference which is thought to make the psychoactive effects delta-8 much less intense than regular delta-9 THC.

Is delta-8 THC natural?

Cannabis plants naturally contain traces of delta-8 THC. However, it can be difficult to extract and isolate in large quantities.

Therefore, in many cases, delta 8 THC products are created through the chemical modification of CBD. This process involves converting CBD into delta-8 THC through a series of chemical reactions.

So, while delta 8 THC does occur naturally in cannabis plants, many commercial products are created through chemical processes and may not be considered fully “natural”.

Is Delta 8 THC legal in the UK?

Although hemp-derived delta 8 THC is legal in the US, in the UK it seems to be considered a controlled substance.

While the MODA doesn’t specifically name delta 8 THC as a controlled compound, it does restrict “derivatives” and “analogues” of prohibited cannabinoids including delta-9 THC and CBN.

Additionally, delta 8 may also fall under the scope of the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016, which outlaws “any substance intended for human consumption that is capable of producing a psychoactive effect.”

Packaging, branding, and labelling

The gummies I received were part of a gift box sent to us by Budmother, which also came with a cool little grinder, some dank-smelling CBD buds, some papers and a rolling tray.

The delta 8 gummies came in a sealed pouch with some funky branding on. The labelling is clear and easy to read, making it simple to understand the dosage and ingredients.

Ingredients & production

To be very honest, the ingredient of these gummies are not what I would consider healthy. Mostly corn syrup, sugar and flavourings. However, these aren’t intended to be consumed in any substantial amounts and each sweet contains just 1.25g of sugar and 10 calories.

They are made with high-quality American hemp and contain 25mg of Delta 8 per gummy. Each batch of gummies is also lab-tested for purity, ensuring that you are getting a safe and effective product.

Taste

These taste great. They are chewy and have a deliciously fruity, slightly sour taste. They remind me of a sweet from childhood but I can’t name it.

You also can’t taste the delta 8 THC or any trace of hemp.

Effects

Many people report that Delta 8 provides a milder high than Delta 9 THC, which can cause anxiety in some users.

I found this to be true, also. Overall, I’d describe it as a calming effect, which can certainly be helpful for people who struggle with anxiety or stress.

After taking a gummy in the morning one day, I felt a clear-headed high, perfect for focusing on tasks.

I’ve also read that delta 8 may help with pain relief, nausea, and stimulating appetite. However, it’s important to note that the effects of delta 8 may vary depending on the individual and their tolerance to cannabinoids.

Conclusion

Budmother’s delta 8 THC gummies are a tasty and effective way to experience the benefits of this novel cannabinoid.

They are delicious and very effective. The reported effects of Delta 8, such as a milder high and calming effect, were also observed during my trial.

Overall, I would recommend these gummies to anyone looking to try Delta 8 THC for the first time or seeking a more mild and calming cannabis experience.

  1. I’ve been a bud mother regular for some time now. They’ve probably got some of the best prices in the UK along with a spoilt for choice selection of products. However some of their cbd flower is of very poor quality. Their customer service is absolutely appalling. The chat facility is beyond useless. You’ll be offered a 10% discount on your next order providing that you review your most recent purchase. I’ve 90% positively reviewed every strain that I’ve ordered an have never received any such discount.

Trust pilot has also stopped allowing Budmother reviews. The last time I checked they had an average rating and only replied to 20% of negative reviews.

Definitely not worth buying from in 2023

    1. Hi Colleen, I’ve been debating about buying some HHC or D8 gummies from Budmother…….Is it just the CBD flower you don’t recommend from this site or their products in general? I’m on disability benefits and I really can’t afford to be ripped off so I’m very hesitant about ordering from them as I’ve read so many mixed reviews……any advice would be really appreciated 👍
      Many thanks
