Jersey Man Arrested For Selling Legally Prescribed Cannabis

A man in Jersey was recently arrested for illegally distributing prescription cannabis.

According to authorities, James Quemard obtained the prescription for an anxiety disorder, but was found selling the cannabis to others with the aim of making a profit.

He was also caught with ecstasy and reportedly had a network of friends who would sometimes supply both weed and ecstasy to one another when they had it.

Police found him while sitting in his parked car, and he reacted to the officers by becoming confrontational and was also seen loading some of the cannabis into his mouth.

But officers still managed to recover about 40 grams of cannabis upon a search of his belongings.

And a search of his home address reportedly revealed a mobile phone and almost £2,000 in cash.

Serious consequences

It’s illegal to sell cannabis to anyone who does not hold a valid prescription and the current UK laws state the maximum penalty for producing or supplying a Class B drug is up to 14 years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both.

James pled guilty to supplying ecstasy and cannabis, possessing cannabis with the intent to supply, possessing diazepam, and obstructing a police officer and was ordered to spend three years and seven months in prison.

It’s unknown how long he had been distributing the drugs, but police believe he had sold 22 grams of cannabis over a seven-month period and eight ecstasy tablets the week prior to his arrest.

The court further heard about a later incident where a search of his hotel room revealed two blocks of cannabis resin, each weighing around 200 grams with a street value of around £5,000 to £7,000.

This resulted from a “poor decision,” a defending advocate told the courtroom.
